Cape Breton-Canso remained Liberal red after the dust from the federal election settled, but with a new hand.
Newcomer Mike Kelloway won the riding in Monday’s election.
It had been held by Rodger Cuzner for 19 years; Cuzner didn’t re-offer this time around.
Kelloway tells The Hawk he’s getting ready to put his platform into action.
“(I’ll) start with community- it was part of my slogan, and it was more than a slogan, it was a belief system,” he says. “I’d like to continue the dialogue throughout this riding, in terms of having a deeper dive on the issues, the challenges, and the opportunities.”
Kelloway says his two biggest concerns are economic development and health care.
He says there are also other issues in the riding.
“I also want to have a discussion in my riding around youth development, youth education, and youth training, in terms of lining up more programs that meet labour market need in our region- currently and into the future.”
Kelloway says he also plans to work on pharmacare and improving supports for seniors.
