Nova Scotia Health has a new president and CEO.

The province says Dr. Nicole Boutilier will assume the role, Wednesday, July 1.

Dr. Boutilier is the current Executive Vice-President, responsible for medicine and clinical operations.

She was raised in Pictou County and is a graduate of Dalhousie Medical School. She has also received the 2026 Chris Carruthers Excellence in Medical Leadership Award from the Canadian Society of Phyisican Leaders.

“Dr. Boutilier is known for her collaborative leadership style and ability to bring people together around a shared vision. She has been an excellent leader at Nova Scotia Health,” says Health Minister Michelle Thompson.

“She will lead a very capable team there. I also want to thank Karen Oldfield for nearly five years of tremendous work at Nova Scotia Health.”

Dr. Boutilier will take over the role from Karen Oldfield who has held the position since 2021. Oldfield will become the CEO of Accelerate of Nova Scotia; a new agency that will have a goal to transform health innovation into economic growth.

Dr. Boutilier says she is “deeply honoured” by the opportunity.
