New primary care clinic opening in Port Hawkesbury

A new primary care clinic is opening up in Port Hawkesbury at the Medicine Shoppe on Reeves St.

It’s part of the province’s Community Pharmacy Care Clinics Program to take some pressure off hospitals and family physicians.

Pharmacists can treat and prescribe medications to patients with common illnesses and chronic disease, such as minor joints and muscle pains, eczema, heart burn, prescriptions for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma and COPD, along with a range of other health issues.

More than 2,600 Nova Scotian’s have already received treatment for strep throat.

So far, 12 clinics opened in February, with 14 more this month, including Teasdale Apothecary, 65 Beech Hill Rd., Antigonish.

The grand opening for the Medicine Shoppe is Monday at 12pm.
