New temporary bridge reopens heavy traffic to Superport

The Mayor of Mulgrave says he’s glad their main street bridge will be replaced soon.

Ron Chisholm says it solves a serious problem, the old bridge wasn’t able to support heavy truck traffic coming to and from the Strait of Canso Superport.

Chisholm tells The Hawk a temporary bridge has been installed to bypass the old bridge and allow access by heavy trucks once again.

“The Bailey bridge is in place, and it’s being used,” he says. “We’re just waiting for the bidding for the tender for the new bridge, which is supposedly coming out in the next little while.”

He says the old bridge has been totally closed off.

Chisholm says they hope to know the winning bid for the tender soon.

“From my understanding it’ll be replaced before the end of the year.”

Chisholm says it also solved the town’s issue with heavy trucks trying to find a way around the bridge, through the narrow side streets of the town.
