Newfoundland man arrested following Port Hastings bust has charges dismissed

A man from Newfoundland charged in relation to a drug bust in Inverness Co. has had his charges dismissed.

RCMP say officers made a traffic stop on Hwy. 105 in Port Hastings in March 2017.

They say they seized 10 pounds of marijuana and 100 grams of shatter, a highly potent form of cannabis resin.

Police charged David Bruce Huxter, 59, of Little Bay and Carl Walter Jacobs, 65, of Deer Lake with a pair of counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking; they entered not guilty pleas in Dec. 2017.

Huxter and Jacobs were scheduled to stand trial in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court in July; instead, the Crown called no evidence against Jacobs, and his charges were dismissed.

Huxter made a Charter application, and the judge ruled in his favour Tuesday; his charges were also dismissed.
