Officials with the Strait Regional Centre for Education have decided to close a number of schools because of the weather.
Dalbrae Academy, Bayview Education Centre, Whycocomagh Education Centre, Inverness Education Centre-Academy, Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre-Academy and Pleasant Bay School are all closed due to weather conditions.
Support staff are expected to report to work at the regular time.
They are the first weather-related school cancellations of the 2018-19 school year.
Buses travelling from Mulgrave to SAERC and TEC are not crossing the Canso Causeway Thursday.
