Nova Scotia Health Authority also eliminating inpatient beds at Canso hospital

The Municipality of the District of Guysborough says the Eastern Memorial Hospital in Canso is losing more than the ER at night.

Councilors received a notice that says the Nova Scotia Health Authority is also eliminating inpatient beds until a nursing shortage can be resolved.

The municipality held an emergency council meeting on Friday afternoon.

Councilors voted unanimously to write a letter to multiple levels of government and the CEO of the health authority about the situation.

The warden says they want the provincial government to commit to the continued long term operation of the Eastern Memorial Hospital.
