Nova Scotia International Student Program at Strait Area Regional Education Centre

The Strait Area Regional Education Centre has been taking part in the Nova Scotia International Student Program. The provincial program places students in education centre’s throughout the province from different parts of the world to learn about a new region and to give them a chance to learn about Nova Scotia culture and take part in various activities such as hockey games. This year, the SAREC has students from Belgium, Chile, France, Vietnam, and many others.

Chris Penny, the Program Manager for the Strait Area says many students enjoy Nova Scotia for its nature and its rural landscape. The students also enjoy the hospitality and kindness presented by Nova Scotians. One student enjoys the region because people here don’t have to lock their doors.

The international students board with local families during their stay. “The NSISP offers a chance for families to bring students into their homes and welcome a different culture” says Penny. The program is actively looking for families that are willing to accept students. Those interested can contact Penny at 902-631-5170 chris.penny@srce.ca
