NSJHL season over; province’s QMJHL teams on break

The latest provincial COVID-19 restrictions have spelled the end for the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League season.

New public health guidelines, which include no travel into or out of the Halifax and surrounding areas for sports, were announced Friday afternoon.

In a statement on the league’s website, officials say they decided to cancel the remainder of the 2020-21 season due to the uncertainty of any future decisions by provincial health officials following a Board of Governors meeting Friday night.

Meanwhile, the province’s two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams are on hiatus.

New restrictions in both our province and PEI mean the Halifax Mooseheads and Charlottetown Islanders can’t play; the Cape Breton Eagles aren’t restricted, but they have no teams to play for the time being.

The three New Brunswick-based teams- the Moncton Wildcats, Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Saint John Sea Dogs- are allowed to resume games March 8, but only against each other.
