Lawrence Joseph Windsor

Lawrence Joseph “Larry” Windsor passed away at home on April 27, 2026. Larry was the second oldest of six children born to Alice and Melvin “Sonny” Windsor.

He is survived by his brother Mel Windsor (Wanda) of Sydney, NS; his sister Maureen “Moe” Windsor of Glace Bay, NS; his brother Johnnie Windsor (Helen) of Toronto, ON; his brother Bernie Windsor (Valerie) of Eastern Passage, NS; and his brother Keith Windsor (Lisa) of Lawrencetown, NS. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, including Rick Windsor and Melissa Windsor (Tabor), son and daughter of Mel and Wanda; Christopher Windsor and Hillary Windsor (Gillis), son and daughter of Johnnie and Helen; and Jeffery Clements, Nadine Clements, and Jennifer Clements, son and daughters of Maureen.

Larry was a lifetime member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He served with dedication for 32 years as a meteorological technician and retired with the rank of Warrant Officer. Following his initial retirement in 2010, after 25 years of service, he returned to the military as a trainer for an additional seven years before retiring once more.

A quiet and introspective soul, Larry found enjoyment in sports—especially baseball—and reading. Those who knew him well regarded him as one of the smartest people they had ever known. He appreciated time outdoors and valued simple moments, often sharing a cigarette and a beer while enjoying easy conversation with those closest to him. Never seeking the spotlight, he quietly deflected recognition to others, even when it was well deserved.

As a senior military leader without his own family, Larry showed a deep sense of care and responsibility for those under his command, often working through holidays so his junior staff could spend time with their families. Though much of his life remained private, he was well liked and deeply respected by all who knew him.

Larry—much of your private life is now a story held close, perhaps never fully told, but your spirit is free, and we wish you lasting peace. May Larry rest in peace.
