Merlyn ‘Merle’ Russell Munroe

MUNROE, Merlyn Russell, 84, Clydesdale, NS passed away on Friday, July 10th at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish surrounded by his family. Born in Whitehead, Guysborough County, he was the son of the late Ralph Thomas Munroe and the late Hazel Mae (Spears) Munroe of Whitehead.

His past professions include a Mechanic Operator’s Assistant for Dover Turnbull Elevators, Halifax and several other positions throughout the years, then finished his career as a Correctional Officer for 25 years at the Guysborough Correctional Facility, until his retirement in 1996. Merle loved listening to music, loved to attend dances and was very active until his health didn’t allow it. He loved his family dearly, loved spending time with them and attending family gatherings.

Merle is survived by his two sons: Scott (Janice) and Buzzy (Angie). Papa had 5 grandchildren who he was very proud of: Aaron, Cory, Kayla, Jake and MacKenzie; brother Max (Effie) and sisters-in-law, Shirley and Glenda. He had many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Dianne (Richard); brother, Kenneth; sister, Myrna; sister-in-law, Patsy and brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Richard), Gordon (Pettipas), Conwell and Max.

A special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit who were so kind and devoted to Merle’s care while he was there.

Also, a special thank you to our family and friends for supporting us through this difficult time.

Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Martha’s Hospital in Antigonish or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Visitation will take place at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home at 54 Queen Street, Guysborough, NS from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 16th.  Funeral services will be held at the St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 6253 Hwy 316, Larry’s River, NS on Friday, July 17th at 11 a.m.

Burial to take place at the Charlos Cove Parish Cemetery. Reception to follow at Communities Along The Bay Multi Use Facility  Community Centre, 6202 Hwy 316, Larry’s River, NS.
