One new COVID-19 case; two more variant cases identified

The Department of Health and Wellness is reporting another new case of COVID-19 Wednesday.

In a release, officials say the Central Zone case is related to a previously reported case.

They say, with one recovery, nine active infections remain: one in Western Zone and the remainder in Central Zone.

Provincial data shows one person still in ICU.

As of Wednesday there are no active cases in Eastern Zone; the last known remaining case has recovered.

Meanwhile, public health officials say they’ve identified two additional cases of the UK variant of COVID-19 in the province.

They say the people, who were tested in January, isolated and have since recovered.

There have been a total of three cases of the UK variant identified in the province; there was also a confirmed case of the South African variant.
