The Nova Scotia NDP and Liberal parties are putting pressure on the Houston government to address the provinces emergency room crisis.

A report has shown that there are over 1600 nursing vacancies and 165 doctor vacancies, and some people have had to wait many hours to receive the care they need.

One doctor at the IWK Health Centre described the state of the hospital as the worst he’s has seen in his 30-year career and the rise of respiratory illnesses are putting a strain on the vulnerable system.

Both parties will discuss this issue at today’s Public Accounts Committee meeting.
