Paon releases statement in response to caucus ouster

The former Tory- now independent- MLA for Cape Breton-Richmond has released a statement.

Tim Houston, the province’s Tory leader, kicked Alana Paon out of caucus Monday.

Houston says there were a number of reasons for the expulsion, but failure to meet standards laid out by members of the House of Assembly Management Commission was the last straw.

In a statement released Monday night, Paon says she’s puzzled and shocked Houston would make such a decision.

She says she filed paperwork with the Speaker to indicate she complied with barrier-free workplace requirements.

Paon says she was elected to be the voice of constituents in Cape Breton-Richmond, and she’ll have more to say regarding her future plans in the coming days.
