Members of the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board have approved a proposed lower power rate for Port Hawkesbury Paper.
Officials with Nova Scotia Power will have the right to order their mill counterparts to increase or reduce their daily power consumption throughout the year as part of the four-year agreement.
Mill reps had said they need the discount to lower their power bills and keep their operation viable; NSP reps say they can save other customers $10 million a year by controlling how much electricity the mill uses and when.
The UARB hearing took place in Halifax in February; the application received the green light in a ruling released Thursday morning.
