Pirates host Blazers in game one of NSJHL final

The Strait Pirates host the Sackville Blazers in the opening game of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League final.

The Pirates (29-2-1) finished the regular season in top spot in the Sid Rowe Division- and the entire league- with 59 points; the Blazers (22-9-1) were second in the Fred Fox Division with 45 points.

The Pirates needed seven games to beat the Bulldogs in the first round of the playoffs; they swept the Miners in four straight in the second round.

Sackville beat Liverpool in five games in the first round, and East Hants in six in the second round to advance.

Taylor Lambke, the head coach of the Pirates, told The Hawk Morning Show they’re prepared for a hard-fought game one.

“It’s the final, so both teams are going to go after it- (we) haven’t seen them in a while, they haven’t seen us, so it’s going to be a little bit of figuring out early on, I would imagine,” he said. “Once the game gets settled in, both teams are good defensively, so it should be a tight-checking game.”

The Pirates swept the two-game season series between the teams.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7:30 p.m.

The series shifts to Sackville for game two Monday night.
