Antigonish and Port Hood residents asked to conserve water

A significant water main leak is causing low water levels in Port Hood.

Inverness Co. officials tell The Hawk residents of Port Hood may experience low or no water service as repairs take place.

Port Hood water customers are being told to limit their usage and conserve water until further notice to assist in regaining water levels in the reservoir.

To conserve water:

– Take shorter showers and avoid taking a bath;

– Do not water your lawn or gardens;

– Avoid washing clothing as much as possible;

– Do not wash your car

– Flush your toilet less often.

Officials say this is crucial so that the Port Hood and District Volunteer Fire Department has access to a water supply in the case of an emergency.

There’s no word on how long it will take for repairs or how much time will be needed to regain water levels in the reservoir.

There’s also water shortages in Antigonish.

The town’s water utility is encouraging customers to conserve water until further notice.

The Columbus Field Splash Pad will remain closed until water levels rise.
