Possible expansion coming for Strait Area Transit service

The mayor of the Town of Port Hawkesbury says there’s been talks about a possible Strait Area Transit service expansion.

Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says a presentation was made about the potential of providing service in Victoria Co.

She says transit reps are preparing a business case to present to county councillors.

After Tuesday night’s regular town council meeting, Chisholm-Beaton said it would discuss what a pilot would look like and what it would look like after the pilot stage.

“They’re wanting to dig down a bit deeper to see what that would look like financially and how the model would look and what that service provision would look like as well,” she said. “That’ll be a continuing story.”

Chisholm-Beaton said if things go well, a possible pilot could be launched at some point this year.

She said there’s also been an increase in Richmond Co. ridership numbers, and they want the growth to continue.
