Premier to announce decision on Northern Pulp extension

The premier has weighed in on Minister of Environment Gordon Wilson’s Tuesday decision to require an additional environmental assessment from Northern Pulp on their effluent pipe.

Stephen McNeil released a statement Wednesday; he says the government must now decide to extend or uphold a Jan. 31 deadline to stop dumping of effluent into Boat Harbour.

He has scheduled an announcement for Friday.

Northern Pulp released a statement Tuesday where they reiterated previous comments that the pulp mill would close if not given an extension.
