Private Operator Encouraged Province Will Re-Examine Childcare Issue

The province will go back to the table with private daycare operators.

Last week, government gave options to the owners that included operating as non-profit, or risk losing government funding.

After backlash from the sector, the government removed a hard deadline of March 18th, and will re-examine the options.

Taylor Thibeau with Lil’ Jems Early Learning Childcare Centre in Yarmouth says she was encouraged to hear the news.

She says she’s on board with more affordable childcare for everyone, but it has to be done right.

“While still maintaining that private sector, and the businesses that these women, mostly, have worked so hard to build,” says Thibeau.

She says government is listening to all those who were outraged at the ultimatum.

“It’s giving us that motivation to continue to work toward the most ideal plan.”

Yesterday, Huddle.Today reported the change from government.
