Quebec Major Junior Hockey League results (from Moncton Wednesday)

Cape Breton Screaming Eagles – 5
Moncton Wildcats – 4

Cape Breton goals: Mathias Laferrière (2), Ryan Francis (2), Mitchell Balmas

St. Andrews’ Declan Smith, Cape Breton’s captain, missed the game following the recent death of his mother; his teammates attended Wednesday’s funeral before the game.

Pleasant Valley’s Jacob Hudson didn’t play for Moncton due to an upper-body injury; Antigonish’s Jake and Sean Stewart were in the Wildcats’ line-up.

The Screaming Eagles (17-11-2), who have won four straight and seven of the last eight, are in a three-way tie with Rimouski and Sherbrooke for seventh in the 18-team league with 36 points, a point behind Charlottetown for sixth, and four points ahead of 10th-place Quebec.

Cape Breton leads the nine-game season series 2-1.
