Rally to pause education changes takes place in Antigonish Co.

An organizer says a rally trying to encourage government officials to pause the implementation of legislation to revamp the province’s education system is taking place in Antigonish Co. Saturday.

Nicole Baden-Clay says lots of people support change in the education system, but it’s concerning to see things move so fast.

She says a group of about ten parents have came together and worked tirelessly to get the rally organized.

Baden-Clay tells The Hawk she’s concerned it will turn in to a similar outcome as the healthcare system when one authority was established.

“I’m a registered nurse and I’ve lived through the amalgamation process and the centralization of healthcare,” she says. “It certainly has had a ripple effect of difficulties in rural areas; I think looking at what the proposals are for education, I wonder if there will be similarities.”

Baden-Clay says the rally starts at the People’s Place Library at 12:45 p.m., before walking to Randy Delorey, Antigonish MLA’s, office.

Sitting at Province House resumes Tuesday.
