RCMP assist stranded tourists after GPS sends them in wrong direction

Ingonish RCMP assisted two stranded tourists after their GPS sent them in a wrong direction in Cape Breton Highlands Saturday afternoon.

Two adults called 911 and reported they were low on fuel with little food and water and limited cell phone coverage with the phone battery running low.

On top of that, the temperature was minus 17 plus the wind chill.

When police arrived they found the Highland Road impassable.

A front-end loader was brought in to clear the snow.

The motorists were located in their vehicle uninjured and they were towed to safety.
