RCMP are investigating a string of copper thefts in Pictou County that they say could put railway safety at risk.
Police say equipment was damaged at railway crossings in rural parts of the county.
Reports came in on June 10, 17 and 22.
According to RCMP, the damage appears to have been done deliberately while someone was trying to steal copper from electrical systems.
Police say damaging railway crossing equipment is dangerous because it can stop warning systems from working properly.
Those systems are meant to warn drivers and other road users when a train is approaching a crossing.
RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact Pictou County District RCMP at 902-485-4333.
Police are also asking scrap dealers to come forward if they may have accepted parts from the damaged equipment.
Anonymous tips can be submitted through Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
