Richmond Co. considering changing food bank funding

Richmond Co. council is looking at how they distribute funds to local food banks.

At Monday’s regular council meeting, some councilors wanted to change the way money was allocated.

Last year each of the county’s five food banks received $2000.

Warden Brian Marchand said they are considering changing that this year.

“The discussion that we initially had was we were going to give to four, so there was five, but because of the fact that one of the food banks was not set up with any physical address,” he said. “Now we’ll try to get information from all of them, and then we’ll make a decision how we’re going to divvy out the $10,000 that we’ve allocated for food banks.”

Marchand said council is looking at changing from equal payments to funding based on need and population.

He says the food banks in Isle Madame, Louisdale, St. Peter’s, and L’Ardoise have physical addresses, Potlotek’s does not.
