A leaky roof led to discussions about aging infrastructure in Richmond Co.
At Monday’s regular council meeting, Richmond’s public works director reported the roof of the Louisdale sewage treatment plant was damaged over the winter.
He said water was coming into the plant because of the damage, and it would cost $60,000 dollars to replace the roof.
Council asked staff to investigate installing a pitched roof on the now flat roofed building.
Warden Brian Marchand said the higher installation cost would be offset by lower repair costs.
“I think it’s potentially the better option. I’m not sure what the cost is going to be, but our public works director will look at that and bring that back to us,” he said. “Even if we’d approved it this evening, he wasn’t starting the work tomorrow.”
Some councillors expressed concerns about repair requirements for aging infrastructure in the municipality generally.
Marchand said it was a concern, and public works is looking at developing a strategy.
