Following consultations with Richmond Co.’s new emergency management coordinator, the county has created two committees to deal with emergency response.
Municipality of the County of Richmond Warden Brian Marchand says the committees are the Municipal Emergency Measures Planning Committee, comprised of all councillors and relevant staff; and the Municipal Emergency Measures Advisory Committee, with two councillors-at-large and staff.
Marchand says they did create the two committees, but they want to be careful not to duplicate work.
“We will start with the advisory committee first and we’ll decide from there what we’re going to do,” he says. “We’ll have our EMO director, and maybe our zone representative for the Cape Breton area with us, and he probably knows best how to direct us moving forward.”
Marchand says council has requested all members attend the first meeting of the advisory committee, where uncertainties can be ironed out.
