The Warden of the County of Richmond has changed his stance on Eastern District Planning Commission payments.
Brian Marchand says he had been in favour of reducing contributions.
He says he didn’t see why they should make full contributions while the EDPC had extra funds.
“I always thought, since there’s no infrastructure in the EDPC, we don’t need a big surplus,” he says. “It’s been, maybe, well managed over the years.”
Marchand says his change of heart comes following a direction from Municipal Affairs to zone all the land in the province.
He says the project is going to require the surplus funds.
“There’s areas in the six municipalities and towns that are involved in the EDPC, there’s many areas, that are not zoned, so our director of the EDPC is going to have to hire more people,” he says.
He says the province has committed to share some of the cost.
