Rodgers says he doesn’t agree with suspension

A lawyer in the Quad Counties found guilty of one charge and cleared of two others has been suspended.

Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society members accused Adam Rodgers of professional misconduct and incompetence.

They said Rodgers should have known what former partner Jason Boudrot was doing before he was charged with misappropriating money from clients’ trust funds.

Rodgers is Desmond family counsel at the Desmond inquiry.

He says the suspension is set to start in July but the inquiry will still be taking place.

Rodgers tells The Hawk he made a request for the suspension to start after it’s over.

“We’re so far into this, that it would be nearly impossible for another lawyer to pick it up and it would be very disruptive to the inquiry overall.”

Rodgers says he doesn’t agree with the suspension.

“Well, I was disappointed with the ruling. These hearing panels of the BAR Society practically always side with the Bar Society so I knew it was possible I’d have a sanction of this nature, but I do respectively disagree with it.”

As of right now, the suspension will begin July 1st.
