Sarah Mitton adds another major win with Diamond League victory in Paris

Brooklyn’s Sarah Mitton has added another major accolade to her trophy cabinet.

The Nova Scotia shot putter won the women’s event at the Diamond League stop in Paris, edging Germany’s Yemisi Mabry.

Mitton was in second place before launching a 19.99-metre throw on her third attempt.

That held up as the winning mark.

Mabry finished second with a throw of 19.93 metres, while Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands was third at 19.89 metres.

Mitton was consistent throughout the competition, clearing 19 metres on five of her six throws.

The result adds to an already strong international resume.

Mitton is a two-time world indoor champion, a world championship silver medallist, a Pan American Games champion, a Commonwealth Games champion and a former Diamond League Final winner.

She opened this Diamond League season with a third-place finish in Shanghai, where she threw a season-best 20.42 metres.

Her personal best is 20.68 metres, set in February 2025.

The win in Paris keeps Mitton among the top contenders in women’s shot put as she looks ahead to the next outdoor World Athletics Championships.

They are scheduled for September 11 to 19, 2027 in Beijing, China.
