Tuesday is the last day of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
The international movement runs Nov. 25 to Dec. 10 each year.
Kelsey Clyke from the Strait Area Women’s Place told The Hawk Morning Show they held a vigil at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre for the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women Friday, the 30th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre.
“It’s important because violence is still happening within our communities, and it cannot be solved with our silence,” she said. “Together, we do have the ability, strength, and power to create change and advocate for the growth that our community needs for a future of non-violence.”
Clyke said they raise awareness during that time.
She said it’s their purple ribbon campaign.
“Throughout those 16 days, we have the purple ribbon campaign to bring awareness to our communities and keep educating everyone about the awareness of violence still happening to promote change.”
Clyke said they want to make sure women get the respect they deserve.
