Shiretown: Three Friends, one remarkable sound and a passion for building community

Some bands are formed through auditions or chance encounters. Others are built on something much deeper, friendship, shared experiences, and a genuine love of making music together. That’s the story of Shiretown, the Nova Scotia trio whose heartfelt songwriting, rich harmonies, and captivating live performances continue to win over audiences.

Comprised of Jess Favaro, Betsy MacDonald, and Greg Favaro, Shiretown has developed a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly original. Blending elements of folk, roots, Americana, and rock, the trio creates music that reflects the landscapes, people, and stories of the Maritimes while remaining relatable to listeners everywhere.

Whether they’re performing an intimate acoustic set in a local café, entertaining festival audiences, or taking the stage at community events, Shiretown delivers performances filled with warmth, authenticity, and the unmistakable chemistry that comes from years of making music together.

At the heart of Shiretown’s music is a commitment to honest storytelling. Their songs explore life’s journeys, relationships, resilience, and the beauty found in everyday moments. Their thoughtful lyrics are complemented by beautifully layered harmonies and musicianship that allows each member’s talents to shine while creating a sound that is uniquely their own.

Their most recent EP, Ghosts in This House, highlights the band’s continued growth as songwriters and performers. Featuring original tracks including “Zephyr Winds,” “Lavender,” and “Pay Dirt,” the recording showcases the musical maturity that has become a hallmark of the band’s work.

For Shiretown, success isn’t measured solely by record sales or ticket numbers. it’s measured by the connections they make with people and the communities they serve.

The trio performs regularly throughout Nova Scotia at festivals, breweries, markets, concert series, and community celebrations, believing that live music has the power to bring people together. Their performances often become more than concerts, they become gatherings where audiences share stories, sing along, and celebrate local culture.

It’s not uncommon to find Jess, Betsy, and Greg attending festivals even when they aren’t performing. They’re regular supporters of fellow artists, enjoying performances from the audience, reconnecting with friends, and celebrating the vibrant East Coast music scene that has helped shape their own journey.

This summer, Shiretown is once again taking their music on the road with Shiretour 2026, performing at venues and events across Nova Scotia.

Their schedule includes appearances at community venues, breweries, farmers’ markets, and concert series, giving audiences numerous opportunities to experience their engaging live show. One highlight is their participation in the Wild Island Farm Concert Series, an exciting initiative that brings outstanding Nova Scotia artists together in a unique rural setting while supporting local arts and culture.

As always, the band continues to add performances throughout the season, making every stop another opportunity to connect with audiences both new and familiar.

While maintaining a busy touring schedule, Shiretown has also been hard at work in the recording studio.

Recent updates shared with fans show the trio balancing live performances with recording sessions as they prepare new original music. Although details remain under wraps, the band’s excitement is evident, and fans can look forward to hearing fresh material in the months ahead.

Their songs celebrate life’s joys and challenges. Their performances bring communities together. Their support for fellow musicians strengthens Nova Scotia’s thriving music scene. Above all, Jess Favaro, Betsy MacDonald, and Greg Favaro have created something special: a band that feels as genuine off stage as it does on it.

For anyone who appreciates exceptional songwriting, beautiful harmonies, and the welcoming spirit of Maritime music, Shiretown is a band well worth discovering.
