One weekend winter storm after another this year has seen more and more snow removal and maintenance resources being used in the Town of Port Hawkesbury.
Between plow operators and other staff, salt and general maintenance, the winter months can have a big impact on town budgets.
Town CAO Terry Doyle says it’s been a busy winter so far.
“Certainly weekend callouts are up this year. We’ve had a lot of ice on roads, so we’ve used a lot of salt so our salt consumption on budgets are up and we are trending sort of upward at this point in time with snow removal, but we still have a significant portion of winter left.” Doyle said.
Doyle says if the storms continue on a regular basis it could affect the budget.
“There has been a considerable amount of snow removal time and resources being used this year and if it did continue then it would be one line that could be over budget.” He said.
Environment Canada has a Special Weather Statement in effect for our region from Thursday to Saturday.
