The only Catholic hospital in Nova Scotia is going to get a new name after losing its religious sponsor.
In March Nova Scotia Health announced that the decades-long agreement between St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Martha was not going to renew.
Sister Brendalee, the leader of the congregation, says after 30 years, it was time to walk away.
Since, the health authority says, they have been working with the congregation on a transition alongside the province and Mission Assurance Advisory Council.
As part of the planning, there will be “internal engagement sessions and activities” for staff, physicians, learners and volunteers.
These sessions will focus on strengths and culture, support, honouring the legacy, and possible names.
The agreement ends September 30.
