Update: StFX student facing trafficking charges suspended

Police in Ontario have charged a StFX student with human trafficking-related offences.

They say officers arrested Justin Barrett, 20, of Brampton Dec. 13.

York Regional Police say Barrett’s charges come after a 16-year-old girl was brought into the sex trade and forced to turn over her earnings.

They say there may be other victims.

Barrett faces eight counts, including trafficking and child porn charges.

He was a first-year member of the StFX‘s men’s soccer team, although he’s no longer listed on the X-Men’s online roster.

In a letter to members of the StFX community, university officials say they’ve suspended the student effective immediately, and they’ll reconsider the matter after the police investigation and criminal charges are done.

They say they’re unaware of any allegations of criminal activity associated with the campus community involving the student.
