Saint Francis Xavier University officials have fleshed out their plans in their first set of information sessions.
Many who attended the virtual meetings Wednesday were concerned about the impact students returning to the community would have, with some asking questions about hospital preparedness, potential outbreaks, and how the university would monitor isolating and sick students.
Elizabeth Yeo, StFX Vice President, Students, says they’re putting a system in place to identify students living off campus in the community.
“Off-campus students who are not required to isolate or who have completed the isolation period will be issued a green wrist bracelet,” she says. “The green bracelet also signifies that the student has committed to follow the community protocols, so the community can be assured that the awareness is there, and the student has made that commitment.”
Yeo says that includes following provincial COVID-19 protocols.
She says the green bracelet will identify those citizen students, and they’ll be required to wear them until Sept. 30.
StFX President Andy Hakin reiterated his stance; as many as 1500 students will return regardless of classes being online or in-person.
“This is where they live, and this is where they’ll be if they’re going to be online.”
Hakin says there’s no zero-risk scenario.
