People living in Antigonish county will have a better idea of what to expect from their municipal council over the next few years.
Council approved it’s strategic planning priorities at a regular council meeting on Oct. 12.
Among the priorities brought forward this time round, water utility connectivity, cell and broadband connection, affordable housing and renewable energy were the most pressing, Warden Owen McCarron said.
“Those are some of the priorities that council will be working on over the next three years and that [were] identified as part of our strategic initiatives priority setting back in January, February. ”
Areas identified as priorities are based on what community members bring to their attention and by what councillors see as priority areas for their district.
By setting priorities, council ensures they’re taking action on items that will have the greatest impact on the community, McCarron said.
Council meets once a month for capital planning, where projects that move the needle on priorities are taken into consideration.
“We sit around the table and look at the funding opportunities… and it gives us an opportunity to work with other levels of government.”
Things which aren’t identified as priorities can still make the list, said McCarron. If something critical pops up, council will take action.
