Suspect in alleged home invasion sentenced

A woman from Sydney Mines charged after an alleged home invasion in Inverness Co. has received her sentence.

Jessica Carolanne Leroy, 25, had originally been charged with break-and-enter with intent, causing a disturbance and resisting arrest; the break-and-enter count was changed to mischief, and Leroy pleaded guilty to that charge and resisting arrest during an election-and-plea hearing in March.

The Crown withdrew the charge of causing a disturbance.

A judge handed Leroy 12 months of probation during a sentencing hearing in Wagmatcook Provincial Court Wednesday.

RCMP say four people went to a home on Subdivision Rd. in We’koqma’q in May 2018; there was an altercation, and bear spray was used.
