Suspect in Inverness Co. vehicle checkpoint committed to stand trial

A Shubenacadie man charged following a vehicle checkpoint in Inverness Co. has been committed to stand trial.

RCMP say they laid drug charges after officers found cocaine, marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia in a vehicle in Mabou in Sept. 2017.

The case of Dwight Barkhouse, 36, opened in court in Oct 2017.

Barkhouse elected a Nova Scotia Supreme Court trial by judge and jury; his preliminary hearing, which determines if there’s enough evidence to send a case to trial, got underway in March, resumed in August, and wrapped up in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Tuesday.

He was committed to stand trial; he re-elected back to provincial court, and is expected for trial June 10.
