Tax rates going up in Antigonish

Town councillors in Antigonish have approved their latest budget.

It comes with a one-cent increase to both the residential and commercial tax rates.

The new residential rate is $1.10/$100 of assessment; the commercial rate increases to $2.62/$100 of assessment.

The $11.5 million budget for 2021-22 passed by a vote of 6-1 at a special council meeting Tuesday night; Sean Cameron was the only councillor opposed.

The town’s capital budget is $2.8 million.
