Theft at Strait Area Museum in Port Hastings

A museum in Port Hastings faced the shocking discovery of a theft on Saturday.

However, it was the copper pipes that connected their heating and air-conditioning unit that were taken, rather than artifacts.

The Strait Area Museum shared in a Facebook post that they feel like giving up, but will carry on with fundraisers to repair the damage.

They say the $30 someone would get selling the copper does not equate to the thousands of dollars it could be to fix it.

The museum adds they are a non-profit society with up to 10 employees each season that fundraise just to keep the heat and lights on.

They say it’s essential to be able to control the heat and humidity to protect their artifacts and archives.

The Strait Area Museum has notified police and believes they have video footage from nearby cameras.
