The ninth day of testimony at the Desmond Fatality Inquiry in Guysborough has wrapped up.
Three nurses who interacted with Lionel Desmond testified Tuesday; all three said Desmond seemed to be suffering from mental health issues, but his condition appeared stable.
Leanne Watts and Maggie MacDonald oversaw Desmond’s ER stay three days before the 2017 triple murder-suicide in Upper Big Tracadie.
MacDonald, who conduct Desmond’s discharge after she received the order from Dr. Faisel Rahman by phone, told the inquiry Desmond had flattened affect when she spoke to him, but otherwise seemed normal.
“From what I noticed, he was very pleasant and calm,” she said. “He just had an emotionless look to his face.”
Watts, who observed Desmond overnight in the ER, said she recorded Desmond’s demeanor as calm and cooperative, and her notes indicate there was nothing out of the ordinary or alarming.
Heather Wheaten, a mental health crisis nurse, said she saw Desmond three months earlier, and he had signs of mental health stress, but nothing she considered dangerous.
Testimony continues Wednesday.
