TIR minister says highway twinning to start in spring

The province’s minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal says the twinning of Hwy. 104 will happen soon.

Llloyd Hines, who’s also the MLA for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie, says they’ll decide on a contractor for the work between Antigonish and Sutherlands River in January.

He says they’ll make an official announcement in April or May.

Hines tells The Hawk they’ve started preliminary work already.

“Anybody that’s been through there lately will see that the clearing- the vegetation removal- is well underway,” he says. “We’re excited to be able to get that project going, and get that safety consideration eliminated for drivers along that long stretch of (highway).”

Hines says they expect construction to start in May.

He says the project will run about 3 years, with a completion date for the 38-kilometre stretch in 2023.
