Today is Winter Solstice

Today (December 21) is winter solstice.

We will have the shortest amount of daylight and longest night of the year. This happens when either of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun.

We have a winter and a summer solstice. In the summer, we have a day with the most daylight.

Various cultures also celebrate today.
