Town council offering $19,000 for movie project

The Town of Antigonish is throwing its support behind a production looking to film in the town.

Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher says they’ve approved $19,000 in funding, which is being matched by their Antigonish Co. counterparts for a total of $38,000, for the upcoming film: Dave, Her Dad and the Tractor, about a person coming back to a small town after transitioning genders.

She says the money is earmarked for food and lodging.

Boucher tells The Hawk it’s a way to show off the community and support local businesses.

“This is just one more way that we can bring people into town,” she says. “Antigonish town will be part of this film, the highland games will be part of this film, and also the money that we’re giving will stay here, so it’s a little economic stimulus to our town.”

Boucher says Writer-Actor-Director Shelly Thompson is a former resident, and Festival Antigonish and Theatre Antigonish organizer.

She says Thompson plans to film during the Antigonish Highland Games Festival.
