Traffic study underway in Aulds Cove

A video traffic study is underway at much criticized Aulds Cove intersection.

At Monday’s regular council meeting, Mulgrave town council learned a consultant had been hired to conduct the study and has already found issues with the intersection to the town.

Mayor Ralph Hadley said the Big Stop at the intersection is used by drivers from across the province and many truck drivers aren’t familiar with it; which is causing vehicles to use the wrong lane to turn into gas station.

Hadley said he spoke to Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister, and Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie MLA, Llyod Hines about the intersection.

“Lloyd said that they are on top of it, they realize it is a safety hazard and that they are going to rectify the problem there,” he said. “It’s great that we reached out to do this, [but] we shouldn’t have to. They spent millions of dollars there putting that infrastructure in there, they should have looked at the safety concerns.”

Hadley said they hope NSTIR resolves the issues with the intersection before there is a major accident.
