The province’s annual gift to Boston is coming from Richmond Co.
Heather and Tony Sampson, of West Bay, donated the 45-foot white spruce grown in Grand Anse.
Tony Sampson says he has a personal connection to Boston, his stepfather’s mother was adopted from the city.
“The tree comes from our property, which was passed down through the family,” he says. “We’ve watched it grow for many years. It has quite a bit of meaning to me and my family to send Nova Scotia’s gift to the people of Boston.”
The province sends a tree to Boston each year to thank the city for aid it provided following the Halifax Explosion in 1917.
The 2020 tree has a second meaning, it has also been dedicated to frontline healthcare workers fighting COVID-19.
Because of the pandemic, there will be no public events for the Tree for Boston this year.
