Trial of suspect in Guysborough Co. fishing dispute scheduled to resume

One of four men arrested in an apparent case of vigilante justice in Guysborough Co. is expected back in court Monday.

RCMP say the operator of one fishing boat deliberately rammed another boat in May 2018.

They say no one was hurt, but one boat was damaged.

Police say it stemmed from recent fishing licence changes in the area, even though no one involved was fishing illegally.

They say they responded to an assault complaint one night later; the victim was taken to hospital with injuries.

RCMP say they believe that was related to the incident the night before, and they arrested four people in total.

Austin Stillmant Chambers, 52, of Ecum Secum pleaded not guilty to an assault causing bodily harm count in November; his trial, which got underway in Antigonish Provincial Court in July, is scheduled to resume after it was adjourned Sept. 11.

Terrance Chambers, 28, of Ecum Secum, who was originally released from custody but was sent back behind bars following a breach of his conditions, faces one count of assault causing bodily harm in the case; he pleaded not guilty, and is scheduled to stand trial in Antigonish Provincial Court Dec. 19.

Eric Victor Pace, 64, from Marie Joseph faces one count of dangerous operation of a motor vessel; Richard Pace, 45, from Marie Joseph has been charged with uttering threats and mischief causing danger to life.

The father and son are scheduled for election-and-plea hearings in Antigonish Provincial Court Oct. 24.
