Two major local projects in province’s highway plan

The province has released its updated $500 million Five-Year Highway Plan for 2021-2022.

Two of its 11 major projects are in the Quad Counties.

Those are improvements and upgrades for the Port Hasting rotary, as well as ongoing work on twinning between Sutherlands River, Pictou Co. and Antigonish, Antigonish Co.

“Our highway system is the backbone of our province. Investing in our highways, roads and bridges is an investment in public safety,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister, Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie MLA Lloyd Hines.

The plan also includes a number of smaller scale improvements.

Locally, there’s work at the Trunk 4/16 intersection in Monastery, Antigonish Co., with nine local paving projects, nine gravelling projects, and three new bridge projects throughout the Quads.

The 2021-2022 plan also confirms ongoing work around the region but doesn’t provide a specific update.
