Voting for next liberal leader, premier winding down

Liberal delegates have less than 24 hours left to vote for the party’s next leader- and the province’s next premier.

Roughly 8,100 party delegates, who started casting virtual ballots at 8 a.m. Monday, can vote until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Premier Stephen McNeil announced his plans to leave the job in August.

Three candidates are in the running to replace him- Antigonish MLA Randy Delorey, Halifax Citadel-Sable Island MLA Labi Kousoulis and Timberlea-Prospect MLA Iain Rankin

Party officials will announce the winner at a virtual leadership convention Saturday night.

McNeil will remain premier until his successor is sworn in.
